3rd ASEAN Focused Cargo Network Partnership Meeting

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA – ASEAN Focused Cargo Network successfully concluded its 3rd Partnership Meeting last October 02 – 05, 2017 held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The event was attended by more than 350 independent freight forwarders from different countries worldwide. The ASEAN Focused Cargo Network Partnership Meeting aims to develop new business and new partnerships among attending forwarders. It was held during the 10th The Freight Summit and happened before the 56th FIATA World Congress 2017.
The registration for the 3rd ASEAN Focused Cargo Network Partnership Meeting opened at 10:00 AM on October 02, 2017 where the delegates reconnected with their friends and met new acquaintances. Each one received the conference kit, meeting schedules, ID and the invitation for the ASEAN Focused Members Dinner that happened on the 3rd day. In the afternoon, ASEAN Focused Cargo Network hosted its first United Nations-inspired cocktail reception held at the Grand Hyatt Grand Salon where all the delegates were wearing their national attire.
The theme United Nations showcases delegates from different countries who represented their unqiue national attires. It signifies unity amongst ASEAN Focused members with different cultures that were gathered in one memorable forwarding event. Among the national attires that were featured during the reception were Aodai of Vietnam, StrojeLudowe of Poland, Dirndl of Germany and Sarafan from Russia. At the reception, everyone was served with delectable sets of canapés as well as wines and whisky. Before the program ended, the delegates were gathered in front for a group photo featuring their national attires with multi-colors but still looked unified.
The inauguration of the event started with a ribbon cutting ceremony officiated by ASEAN Focused Cargo Network Global Network Director,Mr. David Abrenilla, together with the event sponsors such as Gateway Cargo, Origin Logistics Solutions, Palm Logistics and PT DuniaJasa Global. After the ceremony, the delegates were gathered inside the Foyer Grand Hyatt Grand Salon1 for the official program. Mark Millar, who is known to be one of the most prominent speakers in the logistics and supply chain industry, gave his keynote speech about the Regionalization of Cargo Traffic. He was then followed by David Abrenilla who gave a warm welcome to all the ASEAN Focused members and observers of the event. He also presented the network updates which included the acknowledgement of the newest members and the milestone that the network has gone through. Abrenilla also presented the rebranding of the network from Focused Cargo Network to ASEAN Focused Cargo Network including its benefits.In line with this, the network aims to connect international freight forwarders with ASEAN+6 while still providing reliable platform to generate new business and partnerships among its members. The ASEAN+6 include countries from the ASEAN and other countries such as China, Japan, South Korea, India, New Zealand and Australia. The morning session ended with an insightful speech from Jakob Bluhme of Shipco Transport who happily shared talked about the vision of his company and highlighted itsgoals and milestones through the years.
At around 10AM, the delegates transferred to Grand Hyatt Grand Ballroom for the firstsession of face-to-face meetings. During lunch, everyone went to Grand Hyatt’s Thirty8 Restaurant for a scrumptious lunch where they had a wide variety of food to choose from. The face-to-face meeting session resumed at 1:40 PM until 6:00 PM.
Before the day ended, the delegates were gathered back at Thirty8 Restaurant for an intimate ASEAN Focused Members’ Dinner. It was a memorable night of catching up with ASEAN Focused friends and getting to know more each and every member of the network.
On the 3rd day, the delegates were encouraged to participate in various social activities prepared for them. The first activity was called the ASEAN Focused Run that started at 7:30 AM held at the KLCC Park. It was a good way to start the day since everyone was refreshed and energized in preparation for the city tour. At 10 AM, the delegates headed to Batu Caves which is one of the most visited and iconic sites in Selangor, Malaysia. The caves are mounted in limestone hills and considered as a sacred place for Hindus for featuring the highest Murugan statue in Malaysia. After the tour, the delegates had an exciting lunch at Tamarind Restaurant where they were able to try different international cuisines.
In the afternoon, everyone went back to the Grand Hyatt and gathered again around 4:30 PM for an assembly before the Sunset Cocktail. The reception held at Marini’s on 57 which is just few walks away from the hotel where the delegates had a great time with their ASEAN Focused friends, while others were delighted
The last day of the 3rd ASEAN Focused Cargo Network Partnership Meeting finally came. Before the event ended, the delegates had their last session of face-to-face meetings during the entire day.
Meanwhile, one of the highlights of the event was the participation of ASEAN Focused Cargo Network at the FIATA World Congress 2017. David Abrenilla was present during the trade show that opened on October 4, 2017 in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre to represent the newly rebranded network. The ASEAN Focused Cargo Network had a great branding exposure during the trade show since this was attended by several freight forwarding companies and agents from different parts of the globe. Prominent people from the forwarding industry were seen in the event, and ASEAN Focused Cargo Network was privileged to meet the leaders of the ASEAN Federation of Forwarders Associations including the FIATA President, Mr. Huxiang Zhao.
To sum it up, the 3rd ASEAN Focused Cargo Network Partnership Meeting ended with a blast and everyone had fruitful meetings and memorable experiencesthey could bring back home.
